Alberni Valley Lookout, Port Alberni BC 3.9 KM
The Alberni Lookout is 3.9 KM and offers views of Port Alberni, several mountains and would be a great first climb for an experienced little hiker. Not stroller friendly.
Ammonite Falls, Nanaimo BC 5.5KM
Depending on which access you take wether it's from Benson Creek Falls or Creekside Pl, this hike is just over 5KMs and is a perfect hike for beginners or the little ones. They recently have built platforms and stairs so it has easier access. This hike offers different terrain as well as a waterfall. Not stroller friendly.
Avatar Grove, Port Renfrew BC 1.6 KM
Avatar Grove would be a great place for everyone however not stroller friendly. This features an old growth forest and board walks.
Beach Estates Park, Nanaimo BC 1.8KM
Beach Estates Park features a waterfall and access to the ocean. There is another access down by the ferries however the one parking lot where the church is takes you right by the falls leading down some stairs and cool bridges along the way. Not stroller friendly.
Beacon Hill Park, Victoria 3.1 KM
LEAH'S ENTRY: If you want nice pathways, playground options, and a stroller friendly location in Victoria, Beacon Hill park will provide you with that and more. Follow a variety of the pathways in this park for the beautiful gardens, a gazebo, playground, petting zoo, turtles, ducks and more. Stroller friendly and has a small spray park for summer time (look for the big watering can!).
Bowen Park, Nanaimo BC 2.3KM
Bowen Park is great for kids, its stroller friendly, has ducks, waterfalls and a park! This park is around 2.3KM and you can make it longer if needed.
Broom Hill, Sooke BC 4.3KM
Broom Hill is 4.3 KM and offers great views of Sooke and has a swing up top. This has rocky terrain for the more practice with a little bit of incline. Not stroller friendly.
Buttertubs Marsh, Nanaimo BC 2.3KM
Buttertubs is about 2.3KM and will tire any child out. Tons of things to look at from birds, geese, a lake & more. The loop is pretty flat and a good training trail for new hikers. Stroller friendly.
Campbell River Canyon View Trail, Campbell River BC 4.8KM
This moderate trail is around 4.8KM and features Elk Falls. Although I haven't done this one personally, It was brought up to add. I must check this out! I believe not stroller friendly by the looks of it. Beautiful hike alongside the river.
China Creek Falls, Port Alberni BC 2.7 KM
China Creek is around 2.7 KM and features a waterfall. Is steep getting down but is a very pretty hike that you follow up top the river. Steep sections so not best maybe for really small kids.
Cobble Hill "The Dragonfly Trail" Cobble Hill
A 3.7 Loop will take you through a stunning forest with several viewpoints and arbutus trees, a bit of incline but perfect for our dogs and kids.
Colliery Dam, Nanaimo 2.3 KM
Colliery Dam is 2.3 KM and features a couple waterfalls and a small lake. Stroller friendly and a good place to take your dog as well.
Crofton Seawalk, Crofton BC 1.4 KM
This 1.4 KM seawall walk is great for all ages, it features ocean view and is stroller friendly.
Cypress Falls, Vancouver BC 2.7KM
Cypress Falls features multiple waterfalls, this one is a bit more rooted and path is narrow. Be sure to keep your little one in arms reach for this one. Not stroller friendly.
Elk Falls, Campbell River BC 1.8KM
The gorgeous hike to the viewing platform is a must see if in the Campbell River Area. It features a waterfall and suspension bridge. You walk through a beautiful forest as well. To make the trail a little longer make sure to hike upstream to Deer Falls.
Elsie King Loop, Victoria 0.8 KM
LEAH'S ENTRY: This small loop is the perfect place for new walkers - or hikers - to experience the outdoors. This is an accessible boardwalk with informative signage about the area and has a nature house at the parking lot. For more experienced hikers or those that would like a longer hike, there are a variety of larger loops in the trail system that can be explored. You will see a variety of wildlife and in the right season, BC native blackberry bushes (more vine-like and smaller berries than their European counterpart) are found in patches along some of the trails.
Englishman River Park, Parksville BC 5KM
Englishman River Park is great for all ages, stroller friendly and great for first time hikers. The terrain is all different and gets them used to many different paths. There's even picnic tables provided to make a day out of it and bring lunch. This area can be divided into smaller sections 1.3KM or making it longer being 5KM.
Fossil Trail, Port Alberni BC 3.4 KM
Fossil Trail is around 3.4 KM and features a waterfall, suspension bridge and a lake. Not stroller friendly. This is an amazing little hike for all ages I think.
Gracie Lake Lookout, Nahmint Area
A short little spur off the logging road near Gracie Lake will take you to an incredible view of Sproat Lake in-front of you. Refer to this link for finding the directions.
Hemer Park, Cedar BC 4.2 KM
Hemer Park is 4.2 KM and features a small pond and awesome trails for the kiddos. Stroller friendly as well.
Hole in the Wall, Port Alberni BC 1.3KM
Hole in the Wall is around 1.3 KM and features a cool waterfall. This hike gets them used to different terrain and is not long at all. Stroller friendly to a degree.
Horne Lake Bluff, Horne Lake
Parking near the cabins at Horne Lake and doing a bit of research you'll find a pretty lookout of Horne Lake on the biking trail called "Big Buck" It's just under 3K and perfect for kids and a small little hike for a perfect winter sunny day! Refer to TrailForks to find more info.
Kelly Falls, Powell River BC 4.2 KM
This 4.2 KM hike is a great little hike for beginner hikers. It features a waterfall and boardwalks. Stunning hike.
Kinsol Trestle, Shawnigan Lake BC 3.4KM
Kinsol Trestle is such an amazing hike, the path is quite flat for the most part and is stroller friendly. Quite the place for all ages.
Linley Valley, Nanaimo BC 5KM
Linley Valley has several different access points, stroller friendly access as well for most of them. You can go so many different ways such as Cottle Lake, Lost Lake, and many different neighbourhoods. This truly is a great network of trails for kids to burn off some energy.
Little Mountain Trail, Parksville BC 4.2KM
Little Mountain is one you certainly have to watch your child like a hawk as there is no fencing near the edge. There is several ways to go so get out your AllTrails app. This one can be done in a longer period by heading down below to the trails or simply viewing from above and seeing the trails nearby. Not stroller friendly.
Little Qualicum Falls, Qualicum BC 1.3KM
Little Qualicum falls is breathtaking and worth stopping for. There are places for picnic, is not stroller friendly and features a few waterfalls.
Lone Tree Hill, Victoria 1.9 KM
LEAH'S ENTRY: Although short, this hike in the Highlands of Victoria has a stunning view of the area and will give any child a quick workout to the top. A few steep sections for little legs, but the terrain is consistent and the arbutus trees garnish the trail with their presence. The top makes for an excellent picnic spot, but can often get windy, so prepare accordingly in the colder months with some sleeves if you plan on taking a break.
Lost Lake Trail, Nanaimo BC 0.8KM
This was the first hike, I took Graeson in the osprey carrier. It's a local spot for us and great little trail for any tike. Sometimes we go around twice because it's pretty short and not steep at all. Fun little bridges and places to throw rocks in.
Lynn Canyon, Vancouver BC 2.6KM
Lynn Canyon features multiple waterfalls, a suspension bridge & boardwalks. There is lots of roots for the more experienced little hiker but also accommodates little ones as well. Not stroller friendly for some of it.
MacMillian Prov Park, Cameron Lake BC 1.6KM
This boardwalk has just been refinished on the way to Port Alberni is a stop you must visit, wether it's to stretch your legs for your little ones or to take a quick picture. It's worth it. Features rivers, old growth and features a lake nearby.
Mary Vine Creek Falls, Sooke BC 1.8KM
Mary Vine is around 1.8KM with more trails to the lake above to make it longer. This waterfall is impressive with a lot of rain and even when it doesn't. Not stroller friendly.
Matheson Lake Loop, 4.0 KM
Although I haven't done this one, its high on my list. You can make this longer by heading up to Cougars Bluff. Not stroller friendly. This features a lake and has several good terrain for learning hikers.
Mill Hill, Victoria 1.8 KM
LEAH'S ENTRY: This Langford local hill has a steady incline with two routes to the top for urban views. The Calypso trail has a more technical route for children that like to climb or challenge themselves with foot placement, or you can take the Auburn trail to the top for a steady incline with a wide gravel path.
Morrell Sanctuary, Nanaimo BC 3.9KM
Morrell Sanctuary is great for everyone. Not stroller friendly however. Offers tons of great trails to make longer hikes or short ones. Features fairy doors for kids as well in one section.
Mount Wells, Victoria 3.2KM
LEAH'S ENTRY: Although this hike isn’t very long, it packs a punch with views of Mount Finlayson on one side and Victoria on the other. The trek up can be steep for little legs (~230m) but the trail has steps and fences in sections to help keep hikers on route. Note that there is a lookout prior to the summit that may fool you for the top. No strollers, and it is recommended your child has experience with elevation.
Neck Point Park, Nanaimo BC 1.8KM
Neck Point Park is a great place for toddlers to wander around, throw rocks and get them moving. We live just two minutes away and it's been great one. Stroller friendly as well. Being that is only 1.8KM do to the loop its absolutely do-able for any kid.
Notch Hill, Nanoose BC 2.9 KM
Notch Hill is roughly 2.9 KM and features a swing in one part and awesome views. Is a little steep but a great mountain for the littles to practice.
Royal Bay Park Trail, Victoria 3.4 KM
LEAH'S ENTRY: Located in Metchosin, this trail starts at the playground, follows the beach and goes up the hill to a lookout. There are benches along the way for snacks and breaks and the trail is free from roots and rocks. This trail is stroller friendly and has a variety of activities for children to enjoy.
Rutherford & Radar Ridge, Nanaimo BC 3.5 KM
This was a great one for Graeson for the beginning of his hiking days. Parking at Altavista Drive, we hiked the 3.5 KM all the way up. There is rocky terrain so bring good shoes for the kids. This hike is short but will break a sweat and the views are a great payoff.
Sandcut Beach Falls, Juan de Fuca, BC 1.8KM
This is a perfect little trail for everyone. It features a waterfall flowing into the ocean and an awesome beach to spend the day. While it's more of a drive it's certainly worth checking out! Not stroller friendly.
Stocking Creek, Ladysmith BC 2.4KM
Stocking Creek is 2.4KM and features a few waterfalls and stairs. Not stroller friendly. This is a perfect hike for the first time hikers or toddlers.
Stoney Hill Loop, 3.3 KM
LEAH'S ENTRY: Boasting three viewpoints, this walk is excellent for all ages with the stunning forest and views of Saltspring Island. Although it is not stroller friendly, the terrain is accommodating to most children and gives a variety of experience while avoiding large elevation gains.
Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary Loop, Victoria 3.7 KM
LEAH'S ENTRY: This trail boasts a large boardwalk along the water, benches for sitting, a variety of bridges and a nature house. It is a great trail for new hikers and an excellent location for bird watching or investigative children. There are always ducks and other wildlife to look at and the trail has various terrain. Strollers can be used on portions of the trail, but it can get narrow in some areas unless you follow the jogging route. No pets are allowed.
The Abyss, Nanaimo BC 2.1 KM
The Abyss is 2.1 KM and features a cool split in the earth for kids to be amazed at. Has some incline as well to get those little hikers going! Not stroller friendly.
